In 1957 at the Arsenal Plant (Kiev city, former USSR) was introduced SALUT camera. It was the first Soviet mass produced camera of 6x6 cm frame size and with classical configuration, borrowed from Hasselblad-1600F. It looked like its famous prehistoric, but was not so elegant, nice and reliable, and the camera has no so much different accessories as Hassel’s. Early issues of SALUT camera has 1/1500 shutter speed and self-timer, later on these features were removed because it were so difficult for Soviet manufacturers. Since 1972 SALUT camera was changed to very similar SALUT-S camera and in turn to KIEV-88 in 1979. Latest cameras received more nice accessories like prism finders. Unfortunately those cameras have other type of aperture driver even bayonet still same with first SALUT cameras. Soviet shooters liked different features of SALUT and KIEV-88 cameras: removable film-backs (include 6x4.5 cm), high quality lenses, metal curtain shutter, which can work at low temperatures.
