Within this modern world where we live in, nature is what we seek as a relief from the modern world. A vase is one of the most intimate emblem of such relief we can experience. It can just be placed next to us on the working table giving us a sense of relaxation though surrounded by a very stressful environment.
“001 Gypsum Vase” is an exploration into this function of a vase – a reliever. Its design allows the expression of the plant in situ to shine and enhances that sense of natural ease for its user.
When the plant has been placed in the vase, it gives a sense of freedom represented and expressed through the tip of it which always reach upward in the air. Accentuated by the glass tube that channels to its hand-textured gypsum plaster base, the full length of its stalk is visible as though the process of a plant growing from the soil is taking place.
The materials and forms are not only a decoration to the plant but a supplement that optimizes its aesthetic potential. In a holistic sense, this vase presents a complexion of relative harmony among the vase, the plant, and our perception.
