I grew up in Exmouth and most of my family still lives here. Every corner of the town holds a memory, or a few. Through my twenties and thirties I've returned almost every year, and my absence really made me appreciate the town in a way I perhaps didn't when I was younger. I've wanted to draw the town for quite some time to get to know it again and to reconnect.
Drawing forced me to really look at the town properly for the first time in a while. Architecturally, there are so many streets like Bicton St or The Beacon, that I probably shot past on a bike as a child and never thought much of, but are really pretty. I didn't realize North Street has a thatched house or really how grand Holy Trinity is for a parish church. I'm also interested in a place's past and how it's changed and was constantly finding old photos. I hadn't realized that the badminton courts and the sport's center are inside an old railway engineering shed, or that the large modern looking building near the Strand pub is actually a grand Victorian building with a newer front (you can tell if you look at the brickwork on the side). Not exactly groundbreaking stuff but I find it interesting nonetheless haha.
Compared to the boxy Taiwanese buildings I'm usually drawing it was fun having some intricate Victorian mansions and terraces for a change. Even if the terraces did get quite repetitive towards the end. I also wanted to highlight the sea and river - they were such a big part of growing up here.
With the unusual perspective I've chosen I've tried to create a view of Exmouth that feels both intimate and expansive. You'll recognize landmarks, and streets, shops, perhaps your own home, but I also hope you might discover some corners of the town you've walked past but never really seen. Each building, street, and natural feature has been drawn by hand and the original will be available soon too (please message me if you're interested for now)

Print Details
Each print is printed on high quality archival paper with fade proof inks.
The print series is limited, with both a large size and smaller size.
The large size is 85 x 85 cm and numbers 25 in total (inclusive of both color or no color)
The smaller size is 60 x 60 cm and numbers 50 in total (inclusive of both color or no color)
Although that doesn't seem like a huge difference the smaller size is half the size of the larger
Canvas prints are available as part of each series but please get in touch for those as they're a little more expensive and cost a bit more to send given an extra border and extra weight.
How is shipping and delivery going to work?
As you may have gathered I live in Taiwan for most of the year. Prints will be sent from here. I'd love to set up something in England but I also need to sign and number the prints. It would also be great to have stock somewhere physically. I've sent prints before to the UK from here and it's usually taken about two weeks and has been a quite smooth process. I will be in Exmouth for a week in late June, and then mid-July to mid-August and I will likely post a few to myself in preparation which I can then post out from the town (or even hand deliver). I've used my current art printer for about ten years and have had no problems with them. If you're curious what Exmouth is in Chinese it's this: 埃克斯茅斯 Āi kè sī máo sī Each print will be sent via registered airmail in a sturdy tube.
If this ends up being popular I may make an Exmouth postcard set which would likely use a couple of parts of the drawing and some still to be made Exmouth designs.
