Syria.and introduced into Japan about 700 A.D. At present this technique remains in existence only in Kyoto Japan. It was originally applied in making buddhist utensils, mirrors, Warrior's helmets and swords,but in recent years,costume jewelry,smoking articles,and room decoration pieces began to be produced. 《DAMASCENE PROCESS OF MAKING》 1. Numerous fines lines chiseled in steel foundation with delicate instruments. 2. Design inlaid with 24K gold and sterlng silver.(Please turn over) 3. Surface corroded with nitric acid. 4. Surface rusted with ammonia, then rusting stopped by boiling in green tea. 5. Several layers of lacquer baked on entire surface. 6. Design polished out with charcoal. 7.
